QUESTIONS & ANSWERS Q: Where is Douglas Lake Ranch?
Douglas Lake Ranch, Canada's largest cattle ranch, is spread out over 500,000 acres in
beautiful South Central British Columbia. We are conveniently located approximately 320 km
or 192 miles northeast of Vancouver, BC, a four hour drive.
- Q: Can you drive or fly, straight to Douglas Lake Ranch?
- Yes, the choice is yours! You can access Douglas Lake Ranch by
vehicle, or you can book a direct flight with Shuswap Air from Vancouver, BC
(800)663-4074. Be sure to arrange chauffeur service with our office prior to arrival.
Private planes are also welcome by pre-arrangement.
- Q: Do you offer fly fishing?
Yes, we sure do! All of our 12 private lakes are regulated as fly fishing only,
allowing anglers to use artificial fly with a barbless hook, and fly rods. On Salmon Lake,
provincial regulations permit the use of artificial flies and single barbless hooks only.
- Q: What species of trout are found in your lakes?
- Kamloops Rainbow Trout - or feisty "Ranch Rainbows"
as we like to call them.

- Q: Can you purchase flies and fly fishing gear at the
Ranch?
- Yes. Our fly shops at Stoney Lake Lodge and Salmon Lake Resort
are stocked with dozens of top local fly patterns, a selection of Sage rods, fly boxes,
nets, leaders, line, tippet, etc. and staff carry along an assortment of flies when they
visit guests lakeside. We also have a selection of flies at our General Store situated on
the Home Ranch.
- Q: Do you promote 'catch and release' on your private
lakes?
Yes, most definitely. Catch and release practices are extremely important to the quality
of fly fishing offered at Douglas Lake Ranch.
- Q: Do you need to hire a fishing guide?
- No. A main component of our Guest Services Program is to
provide as much information as possible regarding fishing conditions upon your arrival. We
will show you which flies have been hot and point out the most productive areas on the
lake.
- Q: Do you need a freshwater fishing license to fly fish
your private lakes?
Yes and we do have them available to purchase at our
Salmon Lake Resort, Stoney Lake Lodge and the Home Ranch General Store.
- Q: When is the fly fishing season at Douglas Lake Ranch?
- We have three fishing seasons on the Ranch: spring, summer and
fall. Depending on the elevation of the lake and the timing of your trip, spring and fall
offer the best fishing.
- Q: How many guests can you accommodate?
- We can accommodate 15 guests at Stoney Lake Lodge, 8 guests at
the Minnie Lake Ranch House, 8 guests at Twigg's and 2-4 guests at
each of the 11 lakefront cottages at Salmon Lake Resort and 4 in the
Yurt. Salmon Lake Resort also includes 24 serviced RV sites and over
50 campsites. Crater Lake Yurts will accommodate 8 guests.
- Q: What do you offer for the non-fly fisher?
- We offer swimming, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and private
ranch tours. For more information on non-angling lodge packages,
nearby golf courses, hiking and
mountain biking on Douglas Lake Ranch, please give us a call.
- Q: How do you make a reservation?

make reservations early to avoid disappointment.
