Fly Fishing | Fly Fishing Schools Douglas Lake Ranch provides dedicated anglers with some of the best and exclusive stillwater fly fishing in North America . Our lakes are rich with hard fighting Kamloops Rainbow Trout weighing up to ten pounds. This premier fee fishery is comprised of private lakes ranging in size from 30 to 304 acres, including the highly rated Minnie and Stoney Lakes . Our diligent management program includes a catch and release policy, and the number of anglers per lake is kept to a minimum. Guests are permitted to use fly rods with artificial flies on a single barbless hook.An over abundance of food makes it possible for our healthy Ranch Rainbows to achieve above average growth rates of two to four pounds per year. Their primary food sources include leeches, shrimp, chironomids, damsels, dragonflies, boatmen and sedges. Our most popular fly patterns are rabbit strip black leeches and burgundy woolly buggers tied on number 6 to 8 hooks, black and brown chironomids, and red bloodworms tied on number 12's. Green and yellow shrimp, brown boatmen, and red, green and yellow careys on number 8's and 10's. Olive green damsels and dragons tied to number 6's to 10's are also suggested. Our 'Fly of the Year' at Salmon Lake was a cinnamon, brown leech.A full selection of fly lines, four to six weight rods, and five to eight pound tippets are recommended. Anglers may also want to consider using 150 yards or metres of backing at our larger lakes. Personal float tubes are ideally suited for fishing on all of our lakes. Rowboats and electric motors are available for rent. Fishing licenses are required on all lakes. Accommodations and licensed guides available by pre-arrangement. Open April through November.
